The phrase 'Insidious Presence' is deliberate, as it highlights the hidden, yet potent influence of unconscious biases, systemic injustices, and unrecognised dynamics that can erode virtue and perpetuate suffering.
I argue that moral decline is not simply the absence of virtue, but rather the presence of these insidious forces that can undermine our values, our relationships, and our very humanity. These forces can be so subtle, so ingrained, that we may not even be aware of their presence, yet they can have a profound impact on our lives and our world.
The unconscious biases that we hold, often unknowingly, can lead us to perpetuate injustices, to marginalise and exclude others, and to sow the seeds of conflict and suffering.
